The slabs that changed my perspective

For my fall 2021 collection, I made a series of different sized slabs because since this is my first time using clay I wanted to try something new. I always see people making bowls and plates and mugs but when I learned about slabs I knew I wanted to make those for my art show. At the beginning of this process it was a challenge because I had to make sure that the slab didn't tear in half or have any cracks in it. The first step was to wedge my balls of clay, and then I used the slab roller/rolling pin to spread them out so that I could fit the clay into the correct mold for my slabs. I hope that you take away that even if you have never done something before it is okay to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. I look forward to continuing making clay and expanding my work palette with different varieties of form.
